About
ContextClip is a visual context clipboard for AI coding agents. When building UI locally, you constantly notice small issues — spacing, overflow, broken layouts, wrong colors. The usual workflow is slow: screenshot → crop → copy → paste → type context → repeat for every issue. ContextClip replaces that with a single keyboard shortcut. How it works Press Alt+Shift+C on any page (localhost or production) A snipping-tool overlay appears with crosshair guides Drag to select the broken UI area Type what needs to be fixed Click Copy for Cursor — the screenshot is saved, a structured prompt is copied to your clipboard Paste into Cursor, ChatGPT, Claude, or any AI tool Key features • One-shortcut capture — Alt+Shift+C starts immediately, no popup required • Customizable shortcuts — change defaults at chrome://extensions/shortcuts • Choose your save folder — pick any local folder; screenshots save there so Cursor can read them by path • Structured AI prompt — auto-generates page URL, viewport size, selection coordinates, timestamp, and your comment • Works everywhere — localhost, staging, and production sites • Fallback to Downloads — saves to ~/Downloads/contextclip/ if no custom folder is set • Open source — MIT licensed on GitHub Permissions • activeTab — capture a screenshot of the current tab • scripting — inject the selection overlay into the page • clipboardWrite — copy the structured prompt to clipboard • storage — remember your chosen folder name setting • downloads — save screenshots when no custom folder is configured No data is sent to any external server. Everything runs entirely on your local machine.
