Changelog
- Jun 16, 2026description
Focus Lock puts distracting websites in a time box — like one of those phone safes with a timer on the lid, but for your browser. You commit a list of sites and a timer up front. While the timer runs, those sites are blocked behind a calm screen with a live countdown, so the impulse to doomscroll becomes expensive and the productive choice wins by default. HOW IT WORKS • Lock sites in seconds — open the popup, add sites (or a saved group), pick a duration, done. • Hit a locked site and you get a calm block screen with a countdown instead. • Domain-wide — locking youtube.com also covers channels, m.youtube.com and every /watch link. • Recurring schedules — auto-lock sites on the days and hours you choose (overnight windows supported). AN ESCAPE — BUT A COSTLY ONE If you really need in, you can — but only after clearing a gauntlet of deliberately tedious challenges (a distorted captcha, a math problem, typing out a sentence, or a forced wait), with a motivating message that changes after every one you solve. Then one final "are you sure?". Bail and you go straight back to your countdown. MAKE IT STRICTER (OPTIONAL) Turn on Hardened mode and ending a lock early or breaking through requires typing a commitment phrase first. ALSO INCLUDED • Block-list groups — save bundles like "Social" and lock them in one tap. • Focus stats & streaks — see your committed focus time, blocks enforced, and how often you resisted. • Dark mode — automatic (follows your system) or forced light/dark. PRIVATE BY DESIGN No account. No tracking. No analytics. No remote server. Everything is stored locally in your browser and never leaves your device. Open source. Focus Lock is free. If it helps you, there's an optional Ko-fi link inside — no pressure. Single-purpose statement (required for review) Focus Lock blocks websites that the user chooses, for a time the user sets, to help them avoid distraction.
