About

Tab groups are a powerful productivity feature, but managing them in Chrome's native interface is still restrictive.

Last Used Tab Groups makes the experience smoother while staying simple: side panel access, automatic recency sorting, live search, and other practical improvements.

FEATURES

- Open the side panel from the extension icon, or with the keyboard shortcut cmd+shift+L (macOS) or Ctrl+Shift+L (other systems)
- Automatic saving and recency sorting in the side panel
- Pinning, deletion, renaming
- Dynamic search across groups and tabs
- Lazy loading to control memory usage
- Automatic (lossless) merge of groups with the same name
- Automatic deduplication of tabs in open groups
- Adapts to the system theme (light / dark)
- Local library storage using Chrome's native local storage (storage.local)
- Available in 6 languages

KNOWN LIMITATIONS & RECOMMENDATIONS

- Native groups list: every time a group is opened from the extension, Chrome automatically saves a new version of that tab group in its internal "Saved Groups" list, which can create many duplicates in the bookmarks bar. No Chrome extension can currently access or delete these saved, closed groups (current Chrome API limitation).
- Recommended workaround: hide native groups in the bookmarks bar (right-click the bookmarks bar > uncheck "Show tab groups") and, if needed, manually remove duplicates from time to time in the bookmarks bar (one by one, since Chrome currently does not support bulk deletion).
- Use cmd+shift+L (macOS) or Ctrl+Shift+L (other systems) to quickly open/close the side panel.
- The side panel may feel more intuitive on the left: go to "Settings > Appearance > Side panel position > Show on left".
