About

Remode is a website blocker — but instead of a wall, it gives your brain a better offer. Remode doesn't rely on willpower. It creates a positive brain hack and pulls you out of the mode that social media was designed to keep you in. You just stop wanting to scroll.

"When I'm deep in it, the extension goes straight to the trash" — that's just how our brains work. Cheap dopamine from scrolling wins. So Remode competes for that dopamine hit and replaces the cheap kind with the earned kind. The kind you got yourself, in just a few minutes.

🧠 HOW IT WORKS
──────────────────────────────

Step 1 — Intercept
When your time on a site runs out, Remode blocks it. If you have the willpower, you just go do your thing. If not — the trap kicks in.

Step 2 — Cognitive Shift
Instead of a wall, your brain gets a better offer: stay online, but no longer on autopilot. Four tools to choose from: mental math, pattern matching, brain dump, breathing. Each takes a few minutes and gives you dopamine — the kind you actually earned.

Step 3 — The Real-World Exit
One simple physical action: drink some water, stretch, move a little. Basic stuff, but exactly what you forget when you fall into a scroll hole. After that, you're already back in the real world — and going back to the feed just doesn't feel appealing anymore.

⚙️ SETTINGS
──────────────────────────────

Three sites eat up most of your time. Remode is built around that. One shared screen time limit for all three. Default preset: YouTube, Instagram, TikTok — the social media sites that eat most people's time. Or pick your own sites and set your own time.

When the block kicks in, all four tools are available. Pick whichever fits how much energy you have right now. Got some focus? Mental math or brain dump. Want something easier? Pattern matching or breathing.

Think of it as a social media blocker that actually works — because it doesn't fight you.

No stats, no dashboards. Productivity starts when you close the feed — not inside an app. Switch. Get back to your life.

🔒 LOCKED MODE
──────────────────────────────

For those who want to go hardcore. You turn it on yourself, when you know you're going to slip. The only way to turn it off: retype a text without any mistakes. Usually the urge passes while you're doing it. And if you still really need to — you'll unlock it. No lectures either, just interesting facts about the universe that you'll actually remember and want to tell someone. Especially useful if "just one more minute" isn't in your vocabulary.

👋 FROM THE CREATOR
──────────────────────────────

This is Alina — the creator of Remode — and yes, I doomscroll. I tried a lot of different ways to stay focused before I found one that actually worked. And once it did, I suddenly had an incredible amount of time. Including the time to turn this into an extension that helps more people than just me.

P.S. I always forget what's waiting after you install, so I'll say it upfront. Chrome will ask for access — it's only needed to track time on sites. A welcome popup will appear in the top-right corner. I've done my best to make everything clear and easy from there.

Go enjoy that time.
