Better School Ratings adds objective, academics-focused school ratings directly to Zillow and Redfin property pages.

The ratings are based on student academic performance in statewide test results. The methodology is designed to reflect how students are actually doing in school, not broader political or ideological criteria. Results are weighted in proportion to the share of students represented in each group. That means a subgroup representing 5% of students contributes roughly 5% of the overall result, rather than being given outsized influence.

The score being displayed to you is very simple: schools across the state are ranked by their test scores. What you see is simply the percentile. For example, 7/10 denotes the 70th percentile and 9.5/10 denotes the 95th percentile.

Learning in the school is an inherently social process. If the other students your child interacts with are doing well in studies, so will your child. Sometimes, the simplest and most objective approach is the best one!

Our ranking methodology will NOT change every couple of years and produce an entirely different score for the same school.
