Notepad Web brings the familiar Notepad++ editing experience into your browser — completely offline, with no servers and no tracking.

It is an independent, open-source project: an unofficial web port built on top of NotepadNext (an open-source Notepad++ reimplementation). Notepad Web is NOT affiliated with, endorsed by, or sponsored by Notepad++ or NotepadNext. Notepad++ and NotepadNext are the works of their respective authors.

WHAT YOU GET
• A faithful Notepad++ light theme, menu bar, and toolbar.
• Syntax highlighting for ~80 languages, powered by the real NotepadNext Lua language definitions running locally via WebAssembly (Wasmoon).
• Multi-tab editing with per-tab settings (tab size, word wrap).
• Find / Replace / Mark with match-case, whole-word, wrap-around, and Normal/Extended/Regex modes.
• Bookmarks, Mark All Occurrences, clickable URLs, HTML tag auto-close, bracket matching, word auto-completion.
• Macros (record / replay / run N times) and a built-in Lua console.
• Open and save real files via the File System Access API, with upload/download fallback.
• Session restore for unsaved buffers, including cursor and scroll position.

PRIVACY & SECURITY
• 100% offline. No network requests, no telemetry, no analytics.
• Requests only the "storage" permission — used solely to save your session and settings locally in the browser.
• No remote code: all logic (including the Lua engine) ships inside the extension. Manifest V3 compliant.

HONEST NOTE
This is a labor of love maintained by one person. Not every Notepad++ feature ports cleanly to a browser sandbox, and testing is limited by one person's capacity. If something feels off, please open an issue — every report is read and helps make the app more stable.
