About

ASO Toolkit — Feature Guide
A breakdown of every feature in the extension and why it matters for App Store Optimization.

1. Live App Analysis (auto-runs)
What it does: The moment you open the extension on any App Store or Google Play app page, it pulls the listing's real data automatically — no clicking required.

What you get:

Data point	ASO use
Rating & rating count	Conversion signal. High volume + high score = strong social proof; ratings also influence ranking. Lets you benchmark a competitor's trust level.
Category	Confirms which category a competitor ranks in — where you'll compete for category charts.
Price / Installs / Size	Positioning context. Install volume (Android) hints at how entrenched a competitor is; size affects download conversion on cellular.
Content rating	Audience/age targeting and category eligibility.
Current version + Updated date	Update cadence is an ASO health signal. Frequently updated apps tend to rank better and convert more. A stale "Updated" date is a competitor weakness you can exploit.
Original release date	App age/authority. Older apps have accumulated ratings and keyword equity — tells you how hard a target is to outrank.
Screenshot count + Languages	Creative and localization completeness. If a competitor uses 10 screenshots and 20 languages, that's the bar. Few languages = a localization gap you can win.
Min OS version	Device reach.
Why it matters: This is your instant competitor teardown. Instead of manually digging through a listing, you see their entire ASO setup in one glance — ratings, freshness, creative depth, and localization — so you know exactly where you can beat them.

2. Keyword Density (of the live listing)
What it does: Analyzes the app's own copy (name + subtitle/short description + full description) and ranks the terms it repeats most, with counts and percentages.

Why it matters in ASO: Search algorithms associate an app with the words it emphasizes. This reveals a competitor's keyword strategy — which terms they're deliberately reinforcing to rank for. You can:

See which keywords a top-ranking competitor is targeting and why they rank.
Spot keyword stuffing (over-optimization that can hurt) vs. natural density (~2–3% is healthy on Google Play).
Find gaps — valuable terms they aren't emphasizing that you can own.
3. Version History (App Store)
What it does: Lists every past version of an iOS app with its release notes and date (pulled from Apple's API).

Why it matters in ASO: Release notes are a roadmap of a competitor's strategy over time. You can:

Track how often they ship (update velocity = ranking signal).
Read what features/keywords they've been pushing release after release.
Spot when they ran experiments, fixed retention issues, or pivoted messaging.
(Google Play doesn't publish full history on the web, so only the latest "What's new" appears there — the tool tells you this directly.)

4. "What's New" (latest release notes)
What it does: Surfaces the most recent update notes for the app.

Why it matters in ASO: The promotional/update text is keyword-relevant on the App Store and is a quick read on a competitor's current priorities and seasonal pushes.

5. Metadata Character Counters
What it does: Live counters for every indexable field, color-coded green → amber → red as you approach and exceed the store's exact limit. Drafts auto-save.

App Store: App name (30), Subtitle (30), Keyword field (100), Promotional text (170), Description (4000)
Google Play: Title (30), Short description (80), Full description (4000)
Why it matters in ASO: Every character in the high-weight fields (name, subtitle, keyword field) is ranking real estate. Going over the limit gets your metadata truncated or rejected by the store; leaving characters unused wastes ranking potential. This lets you draft metadata that maxes out each field without overflowing.

6. iOS Keyword Field Optimizer
What it does: Cleans a raw keyword list for the iOS 100-character keyword field — lowercases, removes duplicate words, optionally drops stop words (a, the, for…), and strips spaces after commas to reclaim characters. Shows unique-keyword count and how far over/under 100 you are, with one-click copy.

Why it matters in ASO: The iOS keyword field is the single most space-constrained ranking input. Common mistakes waste it:

Spaces after commas — each one burns a character for nothing (Apple ignores them).
Duplicate words — Apple only needs a word once; repeating it across phrases is wasted space.
Stop words & plurals — Apple handles these automatically, so including them wastes characters.
This tool squeezes the maximum number of unique, rankable terms into those 100 characters — directly expanding the number of keywords your app can rank for.

7. Standalone Keyword Density Tool
What it does: Paste any text (your draft description, a competitor's copy) and get its top repeated single words or 2-word phrases.

Why it matters in ASO: On Google Play, the full description is indexed, so keyword placement and density drive rankings. Use this while writing to confirm your priority keywords actually appear often enough — and to reverse-engineer any competitor's copy you paste in.

How it all fits the ASO workflow
Research → Open competitors' listings; Live Analysis + Version History + Keyword Density show you their full strategy and weaknesses.
Write → Use the Counters + Keyword Field Optimizer to draft metadata that maxes every field without overflow.
Validate → Run the Density tool on your own copy to confirm you're emphasizing the right terms before you publish.
