About
yank is an AI browser assistant that runs on your OWN AI plan.
Tell yank what to do — "scrape this list into Notion", "repost this thread to
LinkedIn", "fill this form for every row in my sheet" — and it operates the
website for you, step by step, using the LLM API key you already pay for. Your
own key, any major provider, or a local model.
The twist: every task it completes is cached as a readable macro. Run it again
and yank REPLAYS it deterministically — zero LLM calls, zero tokens, zero cost.
Like AI "skills", but the second run is free.
━━ USE THE AI YOU ALREADY PAY FOR (BYOK) ━━
• Bring your own key. Connect any cloud provider or a local OpenAI-compatible
endpoint, and switch in one setting.
• No middleman markup. Requests go straight from your browser to your
provider on your key. yank takes no cut and adds no per-token fee.
• Local-first and private. Your API key, macros, chat history, and recordings
live in your browser (IndexedDB / chrome.storage). Nothing routes through
our servers to get a task done. No analytics, no telemetry, no tracking.
━━ HOW IT WORKS ━━
1. AI does it once. yank drives the page with real browser tools — click,
type, extract, scroll, navigate, screenshot, upload — and records the
trace as it goes.
2. yank caches the recipe. The trace becomes a human-readable markdown macro
with stable selectors. Read it, edit it, version it — never a black box.
3. Re-run for $0. Say "do it again" or hit replay. Deterministic execution,
no model call, no per-run cost. The Nth run is free.
━━ CORE FEATURES (FREE) ━━
• Three modes — AI-guided run, manual record, zero-LLM replay. Record a
tricky flow yourself and AI turns it into a clean, parameterized macro.
• Page perception — yank snapshots every interactive element before it acts,
so it clicks the right thing instead of guessing.
• Deep page reach — sees inside Shadow DOM and iframes, so it works on
modern web apps and embedded widgets where other automation tools go blind.
• Skips re-exploration — caches the elements that worked on each page
(selectors only, never your data), so repeat visits use fewer steps and
fewer tokens.
• Self-heal — when a website changes and a macro breaks, AI captures a
screenshot, the surrounding DOM, and console errors, then proposes a patch.
You review and accept it. No blind re-recording.
• Variables & loops — yank spots URLs and inputs as variables and turns them
into ask-me-each-run steps. Feed it a CSV or a selection and it infers a
"for each row" loop.
• Password auto-masking — secrets become prompts at run time, never stored
in a macro.
• Context compression — long sessions are auto-summarized to fit the model's
window and cut token spend.
• Cost tracking — see what you spent and what replays saved you each month.
━━ WHAT PEOPLE AUTOMATE WITH IT ━━
• Logged-in scraping and data extraction: search LinkedIn / GitHub / Twitter,
page through results, paste the top N into Notion or a spreadsheet.
• Cross-platform reposting: copy a thread, switch platforms, format, publish —
with the source URL as an ask-variable each run.
• Batch form-filling: take rows from a CSV or sheet, visit each target page,
fill the fields, submit. One recording becomes a loop.
━━ PRO (OPTIONAL) ━━
The whole core above is free, forever, with no account. Pro adds scale and
persistence: unlimited self-heal, up to 15 parallel sessions, session
recovery after closing the browser, scheduled runs, MCP server connections,
macro import/export for backup and sharing, named scenario playbooks, durable
user memory, and priority support.
━━ PRIVACY, PLAINLY ━━
For free use there is no account and no server: we cannot see your data
because there is nowhere for it to go. Network requests go to exactly two
places — the LLM provider you configured, and the websites you tell yank to
operate on. If you subscribe to Pro, we store one thing: an account ID and
whether you've paid. Never your macros, keys, recordings, or browsing.

━━ FAQ ━━
Q: Do I need an API key?
A: Yes — yank is bring-your-own-key by design. You pay your AI provider
directly, only for first runs. Replays are free. Local models work too.
Q: How is this different from an AI sidebar?
A: Sidebars answer questions about a page. yank operates the page — and
remembers how, so you never pay the AI twice for the same task.
Q: What happens when a site changes?
A: The macro fails safely, yank shows you what changed (screenshot + DOM
diff + console), and proposes a one-click patch you review.
Q: Is my API key safe?
A: It's stored locally in your browser's extension storage and sent only to
your chosen provider. It never touches our servers.Technical
