    description
Amethyst helps you understand where your browsing time actually goes.

Instead of showing a rough list of sites you opened, it tracks active browsing time by website domain and turns it into a clear, simple view of your daily habits. You can quickly see which sites take your attention, how your time changes over time, and where your workday is really going.
You finish the day not quite sure where the hours went. You were busy, browser open, tabs switching, work happening but the record is vague. You have a sense that some sites took more time than they should have, and some took less than you expected. You just don't know.

Amethyst gives you that record. Quietly, privately, without sending a single byte outside your browser.

    What Amethyst does

Amethyst tracks how much time you actually spend on each website, not how long a tab is open, but how long you're actively there. The tab must be visible, Chrome must be focused, and you must not be idle. Open something in a background tab? Not counted. Step away from your desk? Not counted. Minimize Chrome? Not counted. When you click the extension icon, you see exactly where your active attention went today. A full dashboard shows your history by day, week, month, or all time. Everything is stored locally in your browser.

    ACTIVE TIME ONLY

Most browser time trackers count from the moment a tab loads to the moment it closes. Amethyst counts differently. It only records time when the tab is the active tab, Chrome is the focused window, and the browser reports you as present, not idle, not locked. If you open a dozen tabs, only the one you're looking at accumulates time. If you get up for coffee, the clock pauses.

    LIVE POPUP SUMMARY

Click the Amethyst icon any time for a quick look at today. You'll see your total active browsing time and a ranked list of the sites where that time went. No navigation required. The popup updates in real time as you browse.

    FULL DASHBOARD WITH FILTERS

Open the options page for the complete picture. Filter by today, the last 7 days, the last 30 days, or all time. See your top sites ranked with active time and percentage share. Trend comparisons show whether this period is up or down from the previous one. When you want the raw numbers, export everything as a CSV. Date, domain, seconds, minutes, hours, in one click. When you want a clean start, a reset option is one confirmation away.

100% LOCAL STORAGE, NO ACCOUNT, NO SYNC, NO BACKEND

Amethyst has no server. There is no account to create, no email to verify, no cloud to sync with. Your browsing data never leaves your device. It lives in Chrome's local storage, and it goes wherever your browser data goes, which is nowhere unless you choose to export it. Uninstalling the extension removes everything.

    PRIVACY BY DESIGN

There is no analytics code in Amethyst. No telemetry, no error reporting to an external service, no third-party SDKs. The only thing Amethyst does with your data is show it back to you. The permissions it requests, storage, tabs, idle, and alarms, are each used for a specific, narrow purpose that is documented in detail on the extension's listing.

    Who it's for

Amethyst is for people who work in a browser all day and want honest visibility into where that time goes. Without handing a detailed record of their browsing habits to a company. If you've tried RescueTime, Toggl Track, or Web Activity Time Tracker and felt uncomfortable with cloud sync, required accounts, or pricing tiers, Amethyst is the alternative. No subscription, no data collection, no compromise. Particularly useful for developers, writers, researchers, and anyone whose professional life lives in browser tabs.

    How it works

Install Amethyst: no account, no setup, no permissions prompts beyond what Chrome shows during install.
Browse normally: Amethyst tracks active time silently in the background. You won't notice it until you look for it.
Click the icon to see where your attention actually went: today, this week, or across your full history.
Your browsing data is yours. Amethyst just helps you see it.

About
