Changelog
- Jun 8, 2026description
Group your tabs automatically. No AI, no subscription, no cloud sync. Just rules that work in the background. You define rules per domain, and the extension handles the rest: when you open a link in a new tab, it joins the right group automatically. If the group doesn't exist, it's created. One click also organizes all your currently open tabs at once. ## Zero config for the tools you already use Built-in presets for Jira, GitHub, GitLab, Trello and more. The pattern extracts the ticket key or project name directly from the URL, so issues land together, PRs land together, boards land together. No regex to write. You can also extract group names from the page title, the URL, or your own regex patterns when you need something custom. ## Sessions you can actually restore Save a snapshot of your open tabs whenever you want. Pin the ones you come back to, one click restore from the popup. When a session is restored into a window that already has tabs, conflicts are surfaced and resolved step by step: duplicate URLs, groups with the same name, nothing gets silently overwritten. A built-in editor lets you reorganize tabs and groups before restoring. ## Duplicate detection that handles messy URLs Opening a page that's already open refocuses and reloads the existing tab instead of creating a twin. Four detection modes, from strict (exact URL) to loose (URL includes), so you pick what fits the site. Need to ignore session tokens, tracking parameters, or authentication IDs? Configure per rule which query parameters to strip before comparing. The same dashboard opened with two different session IDs is recognized as one tab, not two. ## Rules that scale Add, edit, enable or disable each rule. Group them by category. Reorder them by drag and drop. Bulk actions for when your setup grows. Import and export rules or sessions as JSON. The import wizard classifies incoming entries as new, conflicting, or identical, with a comparative view to resolve conflicts one by one. Share your setup across machines or with a team. ## Search Full text search across rules and sessions. Matches are highlighted, accent insensitive, so you find the tab you saved three weeks ago without remembering what you named the session. ## Built for everyone Full keyboard navigation, screen reader compatibility, ARIA labels throughout. Light, dark, or automatic theme. Available in English, French, and Spanish. Open source under GPLv3, actively maintained. Code, issues, and release notes on GitHub: https://github.com/EspritVorace/smart-tab-organizer
Automatically organize your tabs and tab groups with rules that fit your workflow. GitHub issues in one group. Jira tickets in another. Documentation where it belongs. Middle-click a link and it lands in the right group automatically. One button organizes everything already open. Organize tabs by ticket key, project name, URL pattern, page title, domain, or your own regex. Built-in presets for GitHub, GitLab, Jira, Trello, Linear, and more. No regex needed to get started. Opening a page that's already open focuses the existing tab instead of creating a duplicate. Save your workspace before closing Chrome. Restore it the next morning in one click. No accounts. No subscriptions. No AI guessing games. Everything runs locally. Nothing leaves your machine. Free forever. Open source under GPLv3.

You define rules by domain, and the extension does the rest: when you open a link (wheel click or right click), the tab automatically joins the right group. If the group doesn't exist, it is created.
