  Unsay is a focused, privacy-respecting Chrome extension that lets you erase your own outgoing messages from a single Instagram direct message thread — quickly, calmly, and entirely from inside your browser.
  
  WHAT IT DOES
  
  Open any Instagram DM conversation, click the Unsay icon, and a side panel opens to the right. It scans the conversation page by page, counts only the messages you sent, and lets you pick a window: everything, last month, last 6 months, last year, or a custom date range. After explicit confirmation, Unsay unsends the selected messages one by one through Instagram's official direct_v2 API endpoints, with a respectful 5 to 7 second random delay between each deletion to avoid rate-limit impact.
  
  Before unsending, Unsay offers an optional local backup: a single .zip file in your Downloads folder containing a standalone HTML viewer (voice note waveform player, photo lightbox, reel cards, links preserved) and the original media. Free users back up their own messages; Pro users back up the full conversation.
  
  WHY THIS APPROACH
  
  Unsay does not scrape the Instagram DOM. It talks directly to Instagram's REST API from the extension's service worker, using your already-authenticated browser session. Your password is never seen; no third-party server is contacted; nothing about your messages or contacts is sent off your machine.

  LIMITATIONS TO KNOW
  
  • Unsay deletes your outgoing messages only. The other person's messages are never touched.
  • Video and audio call history cannot be deleted from the web by anyone — use the Instagram mobile app for those.
  • Unsay is blocked in Chrome Incognito mode (extension setting). Use a normal Chrome window.

  HOW IT WORKS
  1. Open an Instagram DM on instagram.com and click the Unsay icon. A side panel opens.
  2. Click Scan. Unsay counts the messages you sent.
  3. Pick what to delete (everything, the last month, 6 months, a year, or your own date range), then confirm.
