About

Most furigana extensions work by injecting HTML directly into the page — replacing text, adding ruby tags, and breaking layouts. Furigana Tooltip does none of that.

Select any Japanese text on any website and a clean tooltip appears above your selection showing kanji with their hiragana readings. The page is never touched. When you're done reading, click anywhere or press Escape and it disappears.

Works everywhere — static pages, React and Vue apps, news sites, Twitter, Google Docs, anywhere text exists

Zero page modification — no injected HTML, no broken layouts, no font changes, no copy-paste interference

Offline — readings are generated locally using an embedded Japanese dictionary. Nothing you read is ever sent to a server

On demand — furigana only appears when you select text, not automatically on every kanji on the page

Built for Japanese learners who want to check a reading quickly without interrupting what they're reading.
