DropCrate keeps an eye on the Unity Asset Store and Fab (Epic's unified marketplace covering the former Unreal Marketplace, Quixel, and Sketchfab) so you never miss a free asset drop. Everything runs locally in your browser — no account, no server, no tracking.

WHY DROPCRATE
━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━

Free assets move fast. Unity publishes free items every week, and Fab quietly rotates hundreds of free listings. Checking both stores manually is a chore — and even if you do, it's easy to download the same asset twice because you forgot you already own it.

DropCrate solves both problems in one extension:
• Background polling on a predictable schedule
• System notifications + icon badge when new items drop
• Automatic hide of assets you already own (signed-in detection)

HOW IT WORKS
━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━

DropCrate reuses your existing Unity and Fab sessions — nothing new to sign in to. When you're signed into Unity Asset Store, the extension reads your Owned library using your browser's own cookies (the same way a new tab would) and compares it against the free-asset catalog. Only genuinely new, unowned assets trigger a notification.

Fab's public catalog is fetched via its official JSON API. Fab owned-status is planned for a future update pending access to Fab's library API.

PERMISSIONS EXPLAINED

• "storage" — save catalog cache, owned list, and your settings locally
• "alarms" — schedule the hourly catalog check
• "notifications" — pop a Chrome notification when new free assets drop
• "cookies" — detect Unity sign-in state so the Owned filter works instantly after login/logout
• Host access to unity.com, \*.unity.com, [www.fab.com](https://www.google.com/search?q=https://www.fab.com) — required to fetch the free catalog and your owned library from these storefronts

No data ever leaves your device. DropCrate makes requests only to Unity and Fab domains, using your existing browser session.
