About

SearchCleaner is a free Chrome extension that gives you a personal AI filter for Google search. It hides results that look like spam from YOUR view of the page, so you can focus on what's actually useful. Every hide is one click away from being restored — nothing is blocked globally, nothing changes for anyone else.

Google search results today are increasingly dominated by affiliate listicles, AI-generated SEO content, and "comparison" pages that quietly rank the products they're paid to promote. SearchCleaner reads each result on your search page and hides the ones that match these patterns — so the genuinely useful ones rise to the top.

Instead of maintaining a manual blocklist site by site, SearchCleaner uses a language model as your filter assistant. It evaluates each result on your search page and hides what looks like spam from your view — you decide what counts as spam by adjusting filter intensity, and you can restore any individual result with one click. The AI does the heavy lifting; you stay in control.

—

HOW IT WORKS

1. Install from the Chrome Web Store. One click. No signup required.

2. Search Google normally. Use the engine the way you already do.

3. Within a second or two of the page loading, SearchCleaner reads each result's title and snippet, sends them to its AI judge, and hides the ones flagged as spam from your view. A small badge in the top-right corner shows how many were hidden in your view. Click it to see what was hidden and why — restore anything you'd rather keep. Your reviewing pass; the AI does the first sort.

WHAT THE AI ACTUALLY CATCHES

Two real query patterns that keyword-matching filters cannot handle:

"alternative to notion" — when you search this, competitors' own pages ranking themselves first among "Notion alternatives" get hidden from your view as self-promotion. Genuine third-party comparisons stay visible. You're free to restore any that you do want to read.

"tesla news today" — generic SEO pages titled to match the keyword but lacking concrete reporting in the snippet are hidden from your view. Real news coverage from BBC, CNBC, Yahoo Finance, and similar outlets stays visible. The AI is doing intent-matching for you; you can always override any individual hide.

FREE VS PREMIUM

Free tier: 10 AI content judgments per day. Powered by Google's Gemini Flash Lite model. Catches the most obvious spam patterns — affiliate listicles, low-quality SEO pages, sponsored content. No signup required. No payment required.

Premium tier: unlimited daily AI judgments. Powered by Anthropic's Claude Haiku 4.5 model. More nuanced detection — catches subtle patterns like topic mismatch, AI-generated openings, and content-quality issues on authoritative domains. Hover over any result to see a one-line explanation of why the AI kept or hid it. Filter intensity is adjustable. The intensity slider lets you tune how aggressively the filter operates — set to "Low" for minimal hiding, "High" for more aggressive cleaning of your view.

Premium pricing: $5/month or $50/year (about 17% off the monthly rate).

WHAT THIS EXTENSION DOES NOT DO

It does not modify Google's ranking — only hides results from your view.

It does not block any site globally — hidden results stay fully accessible if you click "restore" or browse without the extension. SearchCleaner only changes what YOU see when you search; it doesn't change Google itself or anyone else's view.

It does not collect your search queries beyond what's needed for AI judgment (titles, snippets, and your query are sent to the AI judge in real-time, not stored long-term).

It does not track you across sites or build a profile.

It does not modify the underlying Google page beyond hiding individual result cards in your view.

PRIVACY & DATA

When you search, SearchCleaner sends the title, snippet, and URL of each result on your search page (plus your search query as context) to its AI judge server. The AI returns a verdict for each result. This happens in real-time and is not stored on our servers beyond a short cache (max 6 hours) used to reduce duplicate processing for repeat searches.

Your IP address is hashed (SHA-256) for rate-limiting purposes only — the raw IP is never stored. The hashed value is deleted after 24 hours.

For Premium subscribers, we store: your email, subscription status, and a Lemon Squeezy customer ID. Payment card details are never on our servers (handled by Lemon Squeezy).

We do not collect cookies, tracking pixels, browsing history outside of search results, or any personally identifiable information beyond the email used for Premium billing.

PERMISSIONS — JUSTIFICATION

storage — used to save your local preferences (filter intensity, hide history, etc.) on your device. Required for the extension to remember your settings between sessions.

activeTab — used to read the current Google search page only when you're actively on it, so the extension can identify result cards and hide them in your view. Not used to read any other tab.

host_permissions (https://www.google.com/*) — scopes the extension's operation strictly to Google search domains. Required for the content script to inject only on Google search pages.

The extension does not request broader host permissions, does not access any tab other than the active Google search tab, and does not communicate with any third-party server except its own AI judge endpoint.
