About

The luminous organism suspended in the water is a Moon Jellyfish (Aurelia aurita), a staple of marine life research and a personal favorite of mine. With my long history observing these animals, their stunning, glowing appearance never ceases to amaze me. This particular species possesses a transparent, umbrella-shaped bell, through which you can clearly see the intricate, radially patterned stomach and the four horseshoe-shaped gonads.

Moon Jellyfish are gentle drifters, using their bell to pulse and propel themselves through the water while collecting food. Their tiny, almost invisible tentacles are lined with stinging cells, but they pose little threat to humans. The beautiful, soft glow they emit is a testament to the diverse and often otherworldly life that thrives in the ocean's depths.
