About

Markdown Editor by Berta is a hand-built, local-first writing environment for Markdown. Type on the left, see the rendered preview on the right. Everything saves to your device — there is no cloud, no account, and no network request.

What you get
- Split-pane editor with live preview
- New tab page opens the full editor (see note below)
- Toolbar popup for quick access from any page
- Autosave with debounced writes to chrome.storage.local
- Multi-document workspace with rename, delete, and updated-at sidebar
- Drag any image into the editor to embed it inline as base64
- Export the current document as .md, .html, or print-to-PDF
- Dark and light themes that follow your system preference
- Keyboard shortcuts: Ctrl+S to save, Ctrl+Shift+N for new document

What you do not get
- No cloud sync, no account, no login
- No analytics, no telemetry, no error reporting
- No ads, no third-party SDKs

New tab behaviour
- This extension uses Chrome’s standard new tab override: opening a new tab shows the Markdown editor instead of the default new tab page. If you prefer the stock new tab page, you can disable or remove this extension and still use other extensions, or open the editor from the toolbar popup in a normal tab.

Permissions
- "storage" — to save your documents on your device via chrome.storage.local.
- "downloads" — to show a native "Save as" dialog when you export.

The extension declares no host permissions. It cannot read or modify any website you visit.

Privacy
This extension makes zero network requests. You can verify that in the extension service worker DevTools Network tab while using the editor.
