Auto Tab Cleaner helps keep busy Chrome sessions manageable without surprising destructive behavior.

The extension tracks tab activity locally and helps you clean up tabs that have not been visited for a configurable amount of time. It defaults to discarding idle tabs, which can reduce memory pressure while keeping the tab visible in Chrome.

You can choose from three cleanup modes:

Monitor only: preview idle tab candidates without changing anything.
Discard idle tabs: safely release memory while keeping tabs in the tab strip.
Close idle tabs: opt into automatic closing with a short local restore history.

Auto Tab Cleaner is built around safe defaults. It protects active tabs, pinned tabs, audible tabs, internal browser pages, and domains you add to the allowlist. If you explicitly enable close mode, the extension records local restore entries before successful closes so you can reopen recently closed tabs from the popup.
