Changelog
- May 14, 2026description
Network Overrides API is a Chrome/Edge extension that lets developers intercept and override network response bodies directly in the browser during development and testing. It provides both a popup and a DevTools panel, making it easy to inspect recent requests, search and organize captured APIs, auto-fill from the current payload, and create overrides using plain URL patterns, wildcards, or regex without changing the real backend. The project uses chrome.debugger with the Chrome DevTools Protocol (Network and Fetch) to fulfill mocked responses at runtime, which makes it useful for frontend development, API mocking, UI edge-case testing, and debugging response-driven behavior. Its interface is designed for fast developer workflows, with grouped request types, inline override editing, only overridden filtering, and local persistence through chrome.storage.local.
Network Overrides DevTools is a lightweight Chrome DevTools extension that allows developers to override, mock, and debug network requests directly from the browser. Built for frontend developers, QA engineers, and testers, this extension helps speed up development workflows by enabling local response overrides without changing backend services. Key Features ✓ Override network requests with local files ✓ Mock API responses instantly ✓ Redirect requests to different environments ✓ Simulate backend changes during frontend development ✓ Debug production issues more efficiently ✓ Work directly inside Chrome DevTools ✓ Lightweight and easy to use Common Use Cases • Frontend development without backend dependencies • API mocking and testing • Debugging production APIs • QA testing and edge-case simulation • Rapid prototyping • Offline/local development workflows How It Helps Instead of waiting for backend updates or modifying server code, developers can instantly override responses and test UI behavior directly in the browser. This improves: • Development speed • Debugging workflow • Team collaboration • Testing flexibility Developer Friendly Network Overrides DevTools is designed to integrate naturally into existing Chrome DevTools workflows with minimal setup and a clean user experience.
