About

Speed Reader shows the text of any article one word at a time, with each word anchored on a highlighted focus point so your eyes barely move. With a little practice you can read well past your normal pace.

What it does:
• One-word-at-a-time (RSVP) reading with a fixed focus point that keeps your eyes still
• Adjustable speed from 100 to 900 WPM — change it live while you read
• Smart pacing that holds a beat longer on commas, periods, and long words so high speeds stay readable
• Section breaks at every heading and subheading, so you can pause and rest between sections instead of reading until your eyes give out
• Rewind or skip by word, and click the progress bar or scroll to jump to any section
• A reading recap — words read, time, and your effective speed — when you finish
• Customizable: toggle smart pacing, the focus-letter highlight, and the guide lines

How to use:
1. Open any article.
2. Click the Speed Reader icon, or press Alt+R. (Select text first to read just that selection.)
3. Space pauses and resumes; the arrow keys rewind and skip by word.

Premium articles:
Speed Reader respects publisher paywalls. If an article is marked as premium or subscriber-only and its full text isn't available on the page, the reader shows a short notice that a subscription is required and stops. It does not access, unlock, or display restricted content — it only reads text the page has already loaded in your browser.

Privacy:
Speed Reader only runs on a page when you activate it. Your preferences are saved in your own browser. It never sends page content — or any data — to a server.

Compatibility:
Speed Reader works on most standard article and news pages, but it has not been tested with every publisher. On some sites — especially smaller or unusually built ones — article detection, section breaks, or premium detection may behave unexpectedly. If a page doesn't read cleanly, try selecting the text you want first.
