About
StepForge AI is a Chrome extension that helps you create step-by-step guides from any web process. Start a capture, complete your workflow normally, and StepForge AI generates a guide with recorded steps, URLs, screenshots, editable text, and export options. It is designed for support teams, operations teams, onboarding managers, agencies, consultants, freelancers, course creators, and small businesses that need to document repeatable processes clearly. Key features: - Capture clicks during a web process. - Generate step-by-step guides automatically. - Attach screenshots to each step. - Edit guide titles, descriptions, and steps. - View and manage local guide history. - Choose a document template: Tutorial, Internal SOP, Client Manual, or Operational Checklist. - Export guides to Markdown. - Export guides to HTML. - Continue capturing workflows that open new tabs. - Store data locally in the browser. StepForge AI is local-first. It does not require an account, does not use an external backend, does not upload screenshots to external servers, and does not sell user data. Your guides, URLs, screenshots, and captured steps are stored locally in your browser using local storage and IndexedDB. You can delete your local data from the extension at any time. Common use cases: - Customer support guides. - Internal procedures. - Client handover manuals. - Employee onboarding. - Training tutorials. - Operational checklists. - Web tool documentation. - Repeatable workflow documentation. Permissions explained: storage: Used to store guide metadata locally in the browser. activeTab: Used to start capturing only when the user explicitly starts a guide. scripting: Used to inject the capture script into the active web page. tabs: Used to detect active tabs and support workflows that open new tabs. http/https host permissions: Used only during an active user-started capture session to document workflows across normal web pages and tabs. StepForge AI is an initial local-first MVP focused on validating fast and practical process documentation directly from the browser.
