The extension reads the upload timestamp directly from YouTube's own page metadata — the same data already visible if you open View Page Source. Nothing leaves your browser.

HOW IT WORKS
══════════════════════

YouTube's watch pages contain a hidden meta tag with the full ISO timestamp:

  <meta itemprop="uploadDate" content="2025-04-10T14:30:00-07:00">

The extension reads this tag, parses the timestamp, converts it to your local timezone using the JavaScript Intl API, and renders a styled badge under the video title. For livestreams and premieres, it prefers the more precise startDate tag.

When you click between videos within YouTube without a full page reload, the extension does a single fetch of the new watch URL to refresh the metadata — the same request your browser would make on a normal navigation.

PERMISSIONS EXPLAINED
══════════════════════

• Read and change YouTube data — required to read the upload-time meta tag from YouTube watch pages and to inject the badge under the video title. The extension cannot access any site other than youtube.com.

That's the only permission. No tabs, no history, no storage of personal data, no remote code execution.

LIMITATIONS
══════════════════════

• The extension only works on regular videos, livestreams, premieres, and Shorts on www.youtube.com. It does not work on embedded videos or third-party players.
• Some very old videos (from before YouTube added precise timestamps to their metadata) may show only a date.
