About

Tab Grouper — Smart Tab Organization by Domain, Keywords, or AI

Tired of drowning in tabs? Tab Grouper automatically organizes your Chrome tabs into color-coded groups using three powerful modes: Domain-based, Keyword-based, and AI-powered grouping.

━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━

HOW IT WORKS

Tab Grouper gives you three ways to tame your tab chaos:

🌐 Domain Mode
Automatically groups tabs by website. All your GitHub tabs go into one group, all your Google Docs into another, localhost tabs are separated by port number — all with a single click. It even recognizes popular sites and gives them friendly names (e.g., "GitHub" instead of "github.com").

# Keyword Mode
Create your own rules. Define keywords and assign them to named, color-coded groups. For example, set up a "Dev" group that catches any tab with "localhost", "swagger", or "postman" in its title or URL. Rules are matched in order, so you have full control over priority.

🤖 AI Mode (Beta)
Connect your Claude (Anthropic) or OpenAI API key and let AI analyze your open tabs. The AI reads tab titles and URLs, then suggests smart groupings based on context — project names, topics, workflows. Great for when your tabs are too diverse for simple rules.

━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━

KEY FEATURES

• One-click grouping — Open the popup, pick a mode, hit "Group Tabs". Done.
• Auto-grouping — Optionally group tabs automatically when you open new ones or when Chrome starts up.
• Ungroup all — Remove all tab groups instantly with one button.
• Keyword rule editor — Add, edit, delete, and reorder keyword rules with a visual color picker. Each rule maps a list of keywords to a named group with a Chrome color.
• Domain overrides — Customize group names and colors for specific domains. Want "github.com" to appear as "Code" in purple? Easy.
• AI integration — Supports Claude (Anthropic) and OpenAI APIs. Choose your preferred provider and model. Only tab titles and URLs are sent — no page content.
• Settings backup — Export and import your rules and settings as JSON. Share configurations with your team.
• Auto-collapse — Optionally collapse groups after creation to save tab bar space.
• Context menu — Right-click the extension icon for quick access to all grouping modes.
• Dark theme UI — Clean, modern interface that looks right at home in Chrome.
• Multilingual — Supports English and Korean (한국어).

USE CASES

For Developers:
Group your localhost tabs by port, keep API docs together, separate staging from production, and organize your GitHub PRs — all automatically.

For Researchers:
Let AI sort your 30+ research tabs into meaningful topic clusters without manually dragging tabs around.

For Project Managers:
Set up keyword rules for each project name so tabs are instantly organized as you work across multiple initiatives.

For Everyone:
Just hit "Group by Domain" and watch your messy tab bar transform into a clean, color-coded workspace.

PRIVACY & SECURITY

• No data collection — Tab Grouper does not collect, store, or transmit any browsing data.
• Local storage only — All settings, rules, and API keys are stored locally in Chrome's sync storage.
• AI mode is opt-in — The AI feature only activates when you explicitly configure an API key and choose to use it.
• Minimal permissions — Only requests the permissions it needs: tabs (to read tab info), tabGroups (to create groups), storage (to save settings), and contextMenus (for right-click access).
• Open and transparent — The extension does exactly what it says, nothing more.
