About

Academic Paper Formatter helps authors preflight Word manuscripts before conference or journal submission. It is designed for researchers, students, lab assistants, and conference organizers who need a quick local check before turning a DOCX manuscript into a final PDF or uploading it to a submission system.

The extension focuses on common, high-impact formatting risks that are easy to miss during writing: wrong page size, shifted margins, accidental single-column or two-column layout changes, missing abstract or references sections, mixed citation styles, copied template instructions, and review-copy text that may reveal identity in double-blind workflows.

Upload a DOCX file and choose the submission profile that matches your workflow. The included profiles cover common review, camera-ready, conference, proceedings, and journal manuscript layouts. Each profile applies workflow-specific checks while keeping document processing local.

Checks include:

- Page size, margins, and column layout when the profile has a clear rule
- Abstract, keywords, introduction, and references landmarks
- Figure and table caption patterns
- Numeric, author-year, or consistency-focused citation style
- Reference numbering gaps when numeric references are detected
- Review-copy risks such as acknowledgments or author placeholders in double-blind profiles
- Leftover template placeholder text
- Dominant explicit font and size hints for profiles with clear typography expectations
- Official resource links for templates, examples, and font sources when known
- Direct download buttons for known official template, example, and form files
- Profile-specific submission checklists for review and camera-ready workflows
- A local HTML resource pack export for the selected profile

How it works:

1. Open the extension popup or side panel.
2. Select the submission profile that best matches the document workflow.
3. Choose a Word DOCX manuscript from your computer.
4. Review pass, warning, failure, and informational findings.
5. Export a JSON report for your records.
6. Optionally create a conservative fixed copy of the DOCX.

The fixer is intentionally cautious. It only applies low-risk document-structure changes that are enabled for the selected profile, such as page setup, margins, column settings, default body typography, and obvious placeholder removal. It does not rewrite your manuscript, citations, equations, figures, tables, references, or scientific content.

Privacy-first design:

- Your manuscript is processed locally in the extension page.
- The extension does not upload DOCX files to a server.
- No account is required.
- No remote code is loaded.
- Only the sidePanel permission is requested.
- Official resource pages and files open only when you click their links.

Important: This is an independent pre-submission helper. It is not affiliated with, endorsed by, or sponsored by any venue, publisher, or professional society, and it does not replace official instructions, PDF validation, or final human review.

Important limits:

- Exact rendered page count still needs Word, PDF export, or the official submission system.
- PDF font embedding, copyright blocks, page limits, track-specific rules, and final camera-ready requirements must be checked against the official venue instructions.
- Official templates and examples can change, so authors should always use the linked source pages as the final authority.
