About

Marketplace Shield helps you slow down and review Facebook Marketplace listings before you message a seller, send money, or share personal information.

The extension scans visible text on supported Marketplace item pages and shows an explainable popup with:

- Risk level: safe, suspicious, or high risk.
- Matched red flags with visible evidence chips.
- Score breakdown by listing, conversation, seller, freshness, scam recipe, duplicate history, and trust reduction.
- Fresh Proof Checklist with practical verification steps.
- Scan-quality warnings when the extension could not see enough listing data for a confident scan.
- Scan data that can show visible listing location context and limited image metadata, such as visible image count, alt-text samples, and source hostnames.
- Safety questions you can copy before arranging pickup, shipping, payment, or a rental tour.
- Optional local feedback and redacted fixture export for improving results.

Marketplace Shield can flag patterns such as:

- Suspiciously low prices on common high-value items.
- Recent visible seller profile signals.
- Shipping-only or no-pickup arrangements.
- Deposit or prepayment requests.
- Verification-code requests.
- Obfuscated phone numbers.
- Off-platform contact requests.
- Outside checkout or product links in visible Marketplace chat.
- Fake payment screenshots, pending-payment claims, account-upgrade fees, and overpayment stories.
- Rental deposits before a tour.
- Vehicle title, VIN, deposit, or wire-transfer pressure.

Marketplace Shield is intentionally cautious. It does not claim a listing is definitely a scam. It highlights possible scam patterns and gives you practical next steps so you can verify the seller, item, and payment terms.
