Read Local makes it easy to support independent bookstores while browsing for books on Amazon.

Many readers discover books on Amazon because of its recommendations, reviews, and search results, but prefer to buy from independent bookstores when possible. Read Local bridges that gap. When you visit a book page on Amazon, the extension recognizes the book you’re viewing and surfaces a clear, friendly option to buy the same book from Bookshop.org instead.

Read Local works automatically in the background. When you land on an Amazon book page, the extension detects the book’s ISBN from the page URL, converts it to the correct ISBN-13, and generates a direct link to the corresponding Bookshop.org listing. A prominent “Buy on Bookshop.org” button appears, along with a banner encouraging support for local bookstores. With a single click, you can choose to complete your purchase on Bookshop.org, where sales help support independent bookstores.

All processing happens locally in your browser. Read Local does not collect, store, or transmit personal data. It does not track your browsing history, read Amazon account information, or monitor activity beyond detecting when you are viewing a book page. The extension only creates outbound links when you explicitly click them.
