About

# Twitter Restriction Chrome Extension

## Overview

Twitter Restriction is a privacy-focused Chrome extension that enhances your Twitter/X browsing experience by filtering out unwanted content. It allows you to hide tweets from specific users and tweets containing certain keywords, giving you more control over what appears in your timeline.

## Features

- **User Filtering**: Hide tweets from specific users without having to block or mute them
- **Keyword Filtering**: Automatically hide tweets containing specific words or phrases
- **Toggle Visibility**: Easily show/hide filtered tweets with a single click
- **Simple Interface**: User-friendly popup menu for managing your filters
- **Complete Privacy**: All your settings are stored locally - no data is sent to external servers

## How It Works

The extension scans the Twitter/X page as you browse and applies filters based on your configured settings:

1. It identifies tweets from users in your restricted list
2. It detects tweets containing your specified keywords
3. Instead of removing these tweets entirely, it overlays them with a notice
4. You can click "Show" on any filtered tweet to temporarily view its content

## Installation

### From Chrome Web Store
1. Visit the Chrome Web Store page for Twitter Restriction (link)
2. Click "Add to Chrome"
3. Confirm the installation when prompted

### Manual Installation (Developer Mode)
1. Download or clone this repository
2. Open Chrome and go to `chrome://extensions`
3. Enable "Developer mode" using the toggle in the top-right corner
4. Click "Load unpacked" and select the folder containing the extension files
5. The extension should now appear in your toolbar

## Usage

1. **Initial Setup**:
   - Click on the extension icon in your Chrome toolbar
   - The popup interface will open
   - The extension is enabled by default (toggle switch at the top)

2. **Configuring Filters**:
   - Enter usernames to restrict in the "Restricted Usernames" field (comma-separated, no @ symbol)
   - Enter keywords to filter in the "Restricted Keywords" field (comma-separated)
   - Click "Save Settings" to apply your changes

3. **Using on Twitter**:
   - Browse Twitter normally
   - Tweets matching your filters will be hidden behind an overlay
   - Click "Show" on any overlay to temporarily view that specific tweet
   - Refresh the page if needed for changes to take effect

## Permissions Explained

- **Storage**: Saves your filter settings locally on your device
- **Active Tab**: Required to interact with the Twitter/X page you're viewing
- **Scripting**: Needed to apply filtering to the tweets and create overlays
- **Host Permissions** (twitter.com, x.com): Allows the extension to operate only on Twitter/X websites

## Privacy

This extension:
- Does NOT collect any personal data
- Does NOT track your browsing history
- Does NOT send any data to external servers
- Stores all settings locally on your device
