About

Cryptext - Secure Text Encryption Made Simple
Transform any text into encrypted messages with just a right-click! Cryptext brings AES-256 encryption to your browser content, making secure communication effortless.

Key Features:

- Right-click encryption - Select text, right-click, encrypt instantly
- Universal compatibility - Works on most websites (see known issues below)
- Quick encrypt popup - Built-in text editor for fast encryption
- Auto-copy to clipboard - Encrypted text automatically copied for easy sharing
- AES-256-GCM encryption - Bank-level security with PBKDF2 key derivation
- No server communication - All encryption happens locally on your device
- Form field support - Works in text inputs, text areas, and rich text editors

How It Works:

1. Select any text on any webpage
2. Right-click and choose "Encrypt Selected Text"
3. Enter your passphrase
4. Selected text is replaced with encrypted version
5. Share the encrypted text safely anywhere
6. Recipients decrypt using the same passphrase

Perfect For:

- Secure messaging on social media
- Protecting sensitive information in emails
- Encrypting passwords and personal data
- Secure note-taking and document sharing
- Adding privacy layer to any online communication

 Privacy First:

- Zero data collection
- No internet connection required
- All encryption happens locally
- Your passphrases never leave your device
- Open-source cryptographic standards

💡 Pro Tip: Use the built-in Quick Encrypt feature for sites that don't support right-click replacement like Facebook and Instagram!

Known Issues:

Rich Text Editors (Facebook, Outlook, etc.):
Some modern websites use complex rich text editors that may not support automatic text replacement:

Facebook Posts/Comments - Text replacement may not work in the status update box or comment fields. Use the popup's "Quick Encrypt" feature instead.
Outlook Web - Rich text email composition may not support direct replacement. Copy encrypted text from the popup and paste manually.
Discord/Slack - Some formatting-enabled chat boxes may clear the encrypted text. The popup method works reliably.
WhatsApp Web - Message input field may not support replacement on some browsers.

Workaround:

Type your message in the extension popup's Quick Encrypt box
Click encrypt (auto-copied to clipboard if enabled)
Paste the encrypted text manually into the problematic field

Why this happens: These sites use contenteditable divs with complex JavaScript frameworks (React, Vue) that can override or reset content changes made by browser extensions.
Alternative: The extension always saves your last encrypted text in the popup for easy copying, making it simple to work around these limitations.
