About
Take full control of your browser's audio. Fader is a per-tab volume mixer for Chrome. Instead of hunting for a volume slider buried inside a tab — or muting your entire system — Fader lets you set the exact volume for every tab independently, right from your browser toolbar. Watching a loud ad while listening to music in another tab? Drop that ad to 0%. Working with a video tutorial at low volume while you also have a call open? Boost the tutorial to 150% without touching anything else. Fader gives you the mixing board your browser never had. 🎚️ PER-TAB VOLUME CONTROL Every tab playing audio gets its own volume slider, from 0% (completely silent) to 200% (boosted beyond the original). Slide it with your mouse or keyboard while the audio plays — changes are instant. Each tab card shows the site favicon and title so you always know what you're controlling, the domain name, a green status dot confirming your setting was applied, and the current volume percentage. 🔇 MUTE WITHOUT LOSING YOUR SETTING The mute button on each card silences that tab instantly — but it remembers exactly where your slider was. Click unmute and you're back at 86%, or 120%, or wherever you left it. There's also a Mute all button that silences every tab at once. Perfect for when someone walks into the room, you jump on a call, or you just need silence for a moment. 🎛️ MASTER VOLUME The master slider scales all tabs proportionally. If you have YouTube at 80%, Spotify at 100%, and a podcast at 60%, pulling the master down to 50% brings them to 40%, 50%, and 30% — preserving your relative mix while reducing the overall level. 💾 SETTINGS SAVED PER WEBSITE Fader remembers your volume preference for each website. Set YouTube to 75% once and every time you open YouTube, Fader restores it automatically — even after closing and reopening Chrome days later. No need to adjust anything again. ⚡ BOOST BEYOND 100% Some videos or streams are recorded too quietly. Drag the slider past 100% — up to 200% — to amplify the audio beyond the original level. A visual warning appears above 150% to let you know you're in boost territory where some sources may clip. ⚠️ DRM CONTENT AWARENESS Sites like Netflix and Disney+ use encrypted media that the browser's audio pipeline protects from modification. Fader detects this automatically and shows a clear DRM label instead of a misleading slider. No silent failures, no confusing behavior — just an honest explanation. ⌨️ KEYBOARD SHORTCUT Open Fader instantly with Alt+Shift+F, configurable in Chrome's keyboard shortcuts at chrome://extensions/shortcuts. 🛡️ PRIVACY FIRST Fader runs entirely on your device. It does not collect any data, does not phone home, has no analytics, no trackers, and no ads. Your volume preferences are stored locally using Chrome's built-in storage API and never leave your browser. WORKS WITH any website that plays audio or video — music players, streaming services, video platforms, conferencing tools, and everything in between. If a tab makes sound, Fader can control it. TECHNICAL DETAILS Built with Manifest V3, vanilla JavaScript, zero external dependencies. Uses the Web Audio API GainNode for precise, low-latency volume control. Content scripts are injected on demand — only when you interact with a tab — keeping resource usage minimal. Fader — Your browser, your volume.
