About

Smackdab Record - Screen Recording with Developer Tools Capture

Record your screen, camera, or both — and automatically capture browser console logs, network requests, and user interactions alongside your video. Smackdab Record is the screen recorder built for how modern teams actually work: async communication, bug reporting, product demos, and developer collaboration, all in one tool.

Why Smackdab Record?

Most screen recorders capture pixels. Smackdab Record captures context. When you record a bug report, your teammates don't just see what happened — they see the console errors, failed network requests, and user actions that caused it. When you record a product demo, viewers get a polished video with automatic transcription and sharing controls. One tool, every use case.

RECORDING

Start recording in seconds. Choose your capture mode — full screen, camera only, or screen with camera overlay — and hit record. A 3-second countdown gives you time to prepare, and a floating toolbar lets you pause, resume, restart, or stop without leaving your workflow.

  - Screen capture with optional camera overlay
  - Camera-only recording for quick video messages
  - Microphone and tab audio capture
  - Floating camera bubble with three size options (small, medium, large)
  - Drag the camera bubble and toolbar anywhere on screen
  - Real-time elapsed timer during recording
  - Pause and resume without starting over
  - Restart recording with one click
  - Toggle mic and camera on/off mid-recording
  - Keyboard shortcut to start/stop (Alt+Shift+R)

DEVELOPER TOOLS CAPTURE

This is what sets Smackdab Record apart. While you record, the extension silently captures everything happening under the hood in your browser:

  - Console logs at every level (log, warn, error, info)
  - Network requests with method, status, headers, and response bodies
  - Uncaught JavaScript errors with full stack traces
  - User interaction events: clicks, navigation, tab switches, input changes
  - All events are time-synced to your video timeline

When someone watches your recording, they can switch between the video, a Console tab, a Network tab, and an Actions tab — just like Chrome DevTools, but synced to the exact moment in the video. Click any log entry to jump to that point in the recording.

For developers, QA engineers, and support teams, this means bug reports that actually contain the information needed to fix the issue. No more "can you open the console and tell me what you see?" Just record, share, and let your teammate see everything.

AUTOMATIC UPLOAD & VIDEO LIBRARY

Recordings upload automatically as you record — no waiting for a file to process after you stop. Your video appears in your library immediately, ready to share.

  - Streaming upload during recording (no local file management)
  - Automatic retry on network interruption
  - Organized video library with custom folders and color coding
  - Rename, move, and organize recordings
  - Thumbnail previews for every video
  - Search and filter your library

SHARING & COLLABORATION

Share recordings with a link, or control exactly who can access them. Smackdab Record gives you fine-grained sharing controls that work for public demos, private team communication, and everything in between.

  - Generate shareable links instantly after recording
  - Password-protect sensitive recordings
  - Invite specific people by email with tracked access
  - Workspace sharing for team-wide visibility
  - Embed videos on any website with responsive iframe code
  - Control viewer permissions: disable downloads, set auto-play, choose start time
  - Revoke access or regenerate share links at any time

TRANSCRIPTION

Every recording is automatically transcribed with time-coded segments. Search your transcript, click any line to jump to that moment in the video, or regenerate the transcript if you need a fresh pass.

  - Automatic speech-to-text after recording completes
  - Time-synced transcript segments
  - Click-to-seek from any transcript line
  - Transcript available on shared links (configurable)

VIDEO EDITING

Trim, cut, and polish recordings without leaving your browser. The built-in editor gives you a visual timeline with waveform display, multi-segment editing, and export to MP4.

  - Visual timeline editor with waveform
  - Trim start and end points
  - Cut out sections from the middle
  - Multi-segment clip editing
  - Background and overlay options
  - Export edited video as MP4
  - AI-powered silence removal
  - AI-powered filler word detection and removal

SPEAKER NOTES & TELEPROMPTER

Presenting or recording a walkthrough? Open the built-in teleprompter with your speaker notes. The notes window is invisible to screen capture — your viewers see a polished presentation while you see your talking points.

  - Floating notes window during recording
  - Auto-scrolling teleprompter with adjustable speed
  - Protected from screen capture (won't appear in your recording)

WHO IS SMACKDAB RECORD FOR?

Developers and engineering teams: Record bug reports with full console and network context. Stop writing multi-paragraph descriptions of what went wrong — just record it and share the link. Your teammate sees the video, the errors, and the failed requests all in one place.

Product and design teams: Record demos, walkthroughs, and feedback sessions. Share with password protection or workspace-wide access. Embed recordings in documentation or wikis.

Support and QA teams: Reproduce issues on video with the developer context attached. Escalate bugs with everything engineering needs to start debugging immediately.

Freelancers and consultants: Record client updates, project walkthroughs, and async standups. Organize recordings by client with folders. Share with password protection for confidentiality.

Anyone who communicates with video: If you've ever recorded your screen to explain something, Smackdab Record does it faster, with better sharing, and with the technical context that other tools miss.

PRIVACY & PERMISSIONS

Smackdab Record requests camera and microphone access only when you choose to record with them. Screen capture requires your explicit selection of what to share. Developer logs are captured only during active recordings and are stored securely alongside your video. You control who can access every recording you make.

GET STARTED
