This OpenStreetMap plugin for the iD editor allows you to generate custom mapping grids based on the current map view and save them as GeoJSON files for later use.
You can specify the number of grid squares per side and define the size of each square in meters.
The resulting file is automatically named with coordinate information and ready to be drag-and-dropped onto your map while in editing mode.
