About

Reddit Prospector captures posts and comments from any Reddit page you are viewing, scores them for sentiment, and lets you copy your dataset to a spreadsheet in one click — without an API key, account, or external server.

It runs entirely inside your browser and only reads pages on reddit.com.


HOW IT WORKS

1. Install the extension and open any Reddit page (your feed, a subreddit, a search results page, or a single thread).
2. Click the toolbar icon and toggle Capture on.
3. Choose a capture mode:
   • All — captures every post and comment that renders on the page.
   • Keywords — only captures items that match comma-separated keywords. Matching runs across title, author, subreddit, and body.
4. Scroll normally. As new content loads, it streams into the table inside the popup.
5. Click Copy All to put every captured row on your clipboard in tab-separated format, ready to paste into Google Sheets, Excel, Notion, Airtable, or any CRM.


WHAT EACH ROW CONTAINS

• Title and body text
• Author username
• Subreddit name
• Score (upvotes minus downvotes)
• Comment count
• Permalink URL
• Created date and time
• Stable ID (used for automatic deduplication)
• Sentiment score (positive, neutral, or negative)


SENTIMENT ANALYSIS

Every captured row is automatically scored and colour-coded — green for positive, red for negative, grey for neutral. The positive and negative keyword dictionaries are editable from the popup, so you can adapt the scoring to your niche (for example SaaS, e-commerce, gaming, finance, or healthcare). Sentiment runs locally; no text is ever sent to an external service or LLM.

PERMISSIONS

• storage — saves your captured rows and settings locally in chrome.storage.local.
• activeTab — reads the Reddit tab you currently have open so the extension can extract data from what is already on screen.
• host_permissions for *.reddit.com — restricts the content script to Reddit pages only.


FAQ

Q: Does it need a Reddit API key?
A: No. It reads the page your browser already loaded, the same way you read it.

Q: Does it work on the redesigned Reddit?
A: Yes — old.reddit.com, www.reddit.com, and sh.reddit.com are all supported.

Q: Can I export to CSV?
A: Copy All produces tab-separated rows that paste cleanly into Google Sheets or Excel. From there, "Save as CSV" is one click.

Q: How many rows can I capture?
A: Storage is bounded by chrome.storage limits (around 5 MB), which is roughly thousands of comment-length rows. For larger jobs, copy and clear in batches.

Q: Does it work on mobile Chrome?
A: Chrome extensions do not run on mobile Chrome (a browser-vendor limitation). Desktop Chrome, Edge, Brave, Arc, and other Chromium-based desktop browsers all work.

Q: How do I clear my captured data?
A: Click Clear All in the popup, or uninstall the extension. Both wipe chrome.storage.local immediately.
