  CarWise extracts the VIN from the listing page and queries NHTSA's Vehicle Product Information Catalog (vPIC) API to return factory specifications. It's the same database used by government agencies and auto industry professionals.
  
  Does CarWise check for recalls?
  Yes. CarWise queries NHTSA's recall database and returns all open safety recalls associated with the VIN, including the affected component and whether the remedy is currently available.
  
  What is a market value estimate?
  The market value estimate uses manufacturer-specific depreciation curves, adjusted for mileage and condition, to give you a realistic private party, trade-in, and dealer retail range. It is not a Carfax or AutoCheck report, but it gives you a solid data-anchored baseline before you negotiate.
