About

Do you ever wonder how much time you actually spend on a website, a project tab, or a single page? Tab Time Tracker is a lightweight Chrome extension that measures how long you stay on each browser tab and helps you build a clear picture of your browsing habits - without accounts, subscriptions, or sending your data anywhere.
Whether you are a freelancer tracking client work, a student managing study sessions, a developer monitoring research tabs, or simply curious about your daily screen time, Tab Time Tracker gives you accurate, real-time feedback right inside your browser.

KEY FEATURES
• Live tab timer on the extension icon
See elapsed time at a glance on the toolbar badge. Choose minutes or seconds format, or turn the badge off entirely.
• Popup with current tab details
Open the popup to view the active tab timer, tracking status, pause reason, and your recently visited tabs. Reset the timer for the current tab with one click.
• Smart automatic pause
Time is counted only when you are actively using the browser. Tracking pauses automatically when:
  – you switch to another tab
  – the browser window loses focus
  – the browser itself is not in focus
  – you are idle (keyboard/mouse inactive for 1, 3, or 5 minutes - configurable)
  – the domain is on your exclusion list
• Statistics dashboard
Open the full statistics page to explore your browsing history over time:
  – Top domains and top URLs
  – Session history with duration and timestamps
  – Filter by today, last 7 days, last 30 days, or all time
  – Search across tracked entries
  – Export your data to CSV
• Flexible settings
  – Idle threshold: off, 1 min, 3 min, or 5 min
  – Excluded domains: skip tracking on sites you choose (e.g. banking, personal sites)
  – Privacy mode: store only domain names, not full URLs
  – Reset on reload: optionally restart the timer when a tab is refreshed
  – Badge display: show minutes, seconds, or hide the badge
• Privacy-first by design
All tracking data and settings are stored locally on your device using Chrome's built-in storage. Nothing is uploaded to external servers. No analytics, no advertising, no third-party tracking.
• Available in 50+ languages
The extension interface supports a wide range of locales through Chrome's internationalization system.

HOW IT WORKS
Tab Time Tracker runs a lightweight background service that monitors your active tab. When you focus a tab and the browser window is active, a timer starts. When you switch away, lose focus, or become idle, the timer pauses and the elapsed time is saved.
Each browsing session is recorded with the tab's domain, URL (unless privacy mode is on), title, and duration. Aggregated statistics let you see which sites consume the most time over days and weeks.
Everything happens locally. The extension does not require an internet connection to track time or display statistics.

WHO IS IT FOR?
    • Freelancers and remote workers who bill by the hour or need to review time on client sites
    • Students who want to understand study vs. distraction time
    • Developers and researchers juggling many reference tabs
    • Anyone practicing digital mindfulness and wanting simple, honest tab-level time data

PRIVACY & DATA
Your browsing data never leaves your computer. Tab Time Tracker:
      – stores all data in chrome.storage.local on your device
      – does not transmit data to any server
      – does not use analytics or advertising SDKs
      – does not load remote code
      – offers a privacy mode to store domains only, without full URLs
You can clear all tracked data at any time from the settings page. Uninstalling the extension removes its stored data from your browser.

GETTING STARTED
    1. Install Tab Time Tracker from the Chrome Web Store.
    2. Pin the extension icon to your toolbar for easy access.
    3. Browse as usual - the timer starts automatically on your active tab.
    4. Click the icon to see the live timer, or open Statistics and Settings for deeper insights.
No setup, no login, no configuration required - though settings are there when you need them.
