About
Claws is the official companion extension for Grabbit, a powerful download manager built for macOS. It acts as a bridge between your browser and your desktop, ensuring that whenever you click a download link, the file is handled directly by Grabbit rather than your browser's default downloader. Key Features: Automatic Interception: Claws monitors your browsing activity and automatically detects when you navigate to a downloadable file (like .zip, .mp4, .pdf, etc.) or click a download link. Seamless Handoff: Once a download is intercepted, Claws instantly cancels the browser download and securely passes the URL directly to the Grabbit macOS app. Authenticated Downloads: Claws securely securely extracts session cookies for the specific download link and forwards them to Grabbit, allowing you to easily download files that require you to be logged into a website. Context Menu Support: Right-click on any link, image, or video and select "Send to Grabbit" to manually dispatch it to the desktop app. Site Exclusions: Don't want Grabbit to manage downloads for a specific website? You can easily bypass Claws for specific domains via the extension's popup. Important Requirements: This extension requires the Grabbit macOS application to be installed and running on your computer. It relies on Native Messaging to communicate with the desktop app. If Grabbit is not installed, the extension will not be able to process your downloads. Why does Claws need so many permissions? To function as a true download manager, Claws requires broad permissions. It needs to monitor network requests and intercept them across all websites (declarativeNetRequest, webNavigation, and :///* host permissions). It also requires the downloads permission to cancel default browser downloads that slip through the cracks, and nativeMessaging to securely transmit the download URLs and cookies to your desktop app. Claws does not collect telemetry or sell your data. the companion app can be downloaded from: https://grabbit.fyi
