Rephrase any text, instantly, without sending it anywhere.

Quick Rewrite is a private, on-device AI rewriter for Chrome. Click the toolbar icon or press a shortcut while your cursor is in any text field or right click on a selected text, and the extension rephrases the text. Review the result, click Insert, and your original text is replaced. Don't like it? Hit Retry.

It runs entirely on your computer using Chrome's built-in Gemini Nano model. Nothing you write ever leaves your browser.


WHY INSTALL QUICK REWRITE

- Truly private. Your text never goes to OpenAI, Google, Anthropic, or any server we run. There is no server. The model runs on your device.
- No API key, no subscription, no account. Install and use it. Forever.
- No tracking, no analytics, no telemetry. The extension only requests two permissions: storage (to save your system prompt and settings) and contextMenus (for the right-click option).
- Works offline. After the one-time model download, you can rephrase on a plane.
- Fast. Output streams chunk-by-chunk as it's generated — no spinner, no waiting for a full round-trip.
- Always in control. The popup shows the rewrite first; your text only changes if you click Insert.

Works with <input>, <textarea>, and contenteditable elements — so it handles everything from Gmail and LinkedIn to comment boxes, GitHub issues, search bars, CMS editors, and rich-text fields across the web.


CUSTOMIZE IT

Click the gear icon in the popup to:

- Edit the prompt the model uses (write more formally, more casually, shorter, in a specific tone — anything you want).
- Switch the popup's UI language at runtime.
- Re-record the keyboard shortcut without leaving Chrome.

Localized into 10 languages: Arabic, Bengali, English, Spanish, French, Hindi, Brazilian Portuguese, Russian, Urdu, and Simplified Chinese.


REQUIREMENTS

Quick Rewrite uses Chrome's built-in Prompt API, which has a few prerequisites:

- Chrome 138 or newer on Windows 10/11, macOS 13+, Linux, or Chromebook Plus (ChromeOS 16389+). Not supported on Android, iOS, or regular ChromeOS.
- Hardware: GPU with more than 4 GB VRAM, or CPU with 16 GB+ RAM and 4+ cores.
- Storage: ~22 GB of free disk space on your Chrome profile volume for the one-time Gemini Nano download.
- Network: an unmetered connection for the initial model download. Fully offline after that.

If the model isn't downloaded yet, the extension kicks off the download from the background and shows a live progress bar — you can close the popup; the download keeps going.
