ChatGPT Smart Search helps users search synced ChatGPT history in the browser and jump directly to the matched message.

Core capabilities
- Local-first search runtime: query rewrite, ranking, snippet highlight, and jump decision run in extension WASM
- Search panel on chatgpt.com with keyboard shortcut (Cmd/Ctrl+K)
- Message-level jump from search results to the target conversation position
- Incremental sync and full sync to keep local index up to date
- Sync status visibility in the popup during sync and after completion

Privacy
- Search, ranking, and indexing execute locally in the extension runtime
- Synced conversation content used for search stays in local browser storage
- Backend services are used only for sign-in, sign-out, session/entitlement checks, and payment

Account and upgrade
- Core search/sync still relies on your active chatgpt.com session
- Google sign-in unlocks extension account features only
- Paid upgrade opens a user-triggered checkout URL returned by the product worker

Permissions
- storage: save local settings, sync state, and extension account session snapshot
- alarms: schedule auto-sync and entitlement refresh/retry jobs
- tabs: observe chatgpt.com tab updates, communicate with the active ChatGPT tab when needed, and open user-triggered checkout tab
- identity: complete Google OAuth via Chrome identity flow
