About
Synopsis: Philadelphia, present day. Like most other Cities across America, it has its share of issues with regard to young adults finding their place in life. Its profound Historic greatness is clouded by the dysfunction, chaos, lack of effective human service resources, and the desensitized perspectives held by many of its citizens. Troy Davis, an African American counselor is at his wits end as he struggles to understand how to make a positive and lasting impact on the young adults at the Life Skills Center where he works. The challenges he face, along with his questions centered on the purpose of his own life, bring him to the brink of depression and beyond. Coupled with the continuous disconnect he has with Elise (his fiancé), and his confusion around religion, he struggles through each day to overcome feelings of doom and despair. CASES follows the intersecting stories of the characters. It functions as a testimony of how they experience the world they live in, and how their environments affect how they navigate within society. Through their interactions with Troy, their peers and members of their neighborhood we get a profound glimpse into how their life experiences inform their behaviors, and how their behaviors define who they are. As each episode unfolds we learn more about the complexities in the lives of the characters, and how they operate in the world in which they live. The project seeks to illuminate the unblinking truth of life in the urban community while at the same time demonstrate the strength of determination to overcome a life situation and mindset that many considered dysfunctional and caste. The project has an urban musical background and is informed by youth, young adults and adults from the demographic targeted for the project.
