About

If you work with multiple ServiceNow instances at the same time — development, test, staging, and production — you know the anxiety: "Wait, which tab am I on right now?"

ServiceNow Environment Guard - Environment Marker solves this with a simple visual system. Once configured, every ServiceNow instance gets a persistent colored border and a banner across the top of the page, so you always know exactly where you are at a glance.

No more accidental changes in production. No more "I thought I was in dev."

── HOW IT WORKS ──

You map your ServiceNow instance URLs to environment types — a one-time setup that takes about a minute. After that, whenever you open a matching page, the extension automatically draws a full-page color-coded frame:

  🚨 Red → Production
  ⚠️ Orange → Staging
  🧪 Yellow → Test / QA
  ✅ Green → Development

The banner shows the environment type and the name you gave it, so there is no guessing involved.

── FEATURES ──

Visual environment indicator
A fixed top bar and a colored border wrap the entire browser window. The indicator is hard to miss — it's not a tiny favicon badge or a subtle icon, it's a full visual "wall" around the page.

Pulsing animation on Production
The production banner gently pulses to stay in your peripheral vision, even when you're focused on a form or a record.

Any number of instances
Add as many URL patterns as you need — one mapping per instance. Patterns are matched as substrings against the full URL, so both standard service-now.com domains and custom company domains are supported.

Action blocking on Production
Optionally enable a confirmation dialog that appears before dangerous actions like Save, Update, Insert, Delete, Deploy, Commit, and more. If you click a button that could modify production data, a prompt asks you to confirm before the action goes through.

Custom block keywords
From the Advanced Settings page, you can add your own keywords on top of the built-in list. Useful for custom workflows, buttons with company-specific labels, or any ServiceNow customization your team has added.

Dismiss for the session
Each environment banner has a Dismiss button. Click it to hide the indicator for the current tab — useful when you need a clean screenshot or are sharing your screen.

Settings sync across devices
Your environment mappings and custom keywords are stored using Chrome's built-in sync storage, so your configuration follows you when you sign in on another machine.

── BUILT-IN BLOCKED KEYWORDS ──

The action-blocking feature watches for the following words in button labels (case-insensitive, also checks aria-label and title attributes):

save · update · insert · submit · delete · deploy · publish · activate · commit · install · checkout · promote · migrate · force apply · execute · run · approve · apply · revert

You can extend this list with your own keywords in Advanced Settings.

── SETUP ──

1. Click the extension icon.
2. Enter a URL pattern for your instance (e.g. mycompany-prod.service-now.com).
3. Give it a name and choose the environment type.
4. Reload the tab — the indicator appears immediately.

Repeat for each instance. That's it.

── PRIVACY ──

This extension does not collect, transmit, or store any data outside your browser. All configuration is saved locally using Chrome's storage sync API, which means your data stays within your Google account and is never sent to any third-party server.

The extension only activates on pages that match URL patterns you have explicitly configured. On all other pages it does nothing.
