About

If you use Claude in Chrome, you know the problem: every task Claude works on leaves a tab group behind. Investigate a traffic drop? Five tabs. Customer interview research? Eight tabs. Pipeline dashboard? Six more. They stack up. By the end of a week your tab bar is a graveyard of finished work you can't bring yourself to close one-by-one.

Browser Sanity fixes this in a single click. The toolbar button:

• Closes every tab in any tab group Claude has marked done (groups whose title contains ✅) — across all your Chrome windows.
• Collapses exact-URL duplicates to one tab.
• Collapses near-duplicates (same domain + path, different query strings or fragments).
• Collapses multiple tabs from the same site to the most recently used one — three ESPN tabs → one.

ALWAYS PRESERVED — nothing you care about disappears:
• The active tab in every window
• Pinned tabs
• Tabs currently playing audio
• Anything on mail.google.com or calendar.google.com (so personal + work Gmail are both safe by default)
• Any tab you haven't visited recently — there is NO time-based closing by default, so the reminder tabs you've parked are kept

WHY CLAUDE USERS NEED THIS:
Claude in Chrome creates a tab group for every task or scheduled job. When a task completes, the group is still there. Manually closing 5–10 finished task groups every day wears you down. Browser Sanity does it in one click, and it's smart enough to leave in-progress groups alone — only the ones marked complete (✅) get cleaned up.

WHY ANYONE NEEDS THIS:
Even if you don't use Claude, you probably have duplicate tabs and forgotten dupes from the same site. One click and they're gone.

PREVIEW MODE:
The popup includes a "Preview what would close" button — see the candidate list before any tabs are touched. Nothing gets closed without you clicking.

CONFIGURABLE:
• Add domains to a never-close allowlist
• Add tab group titles (e.g. "Reading List") to never close
• Use a different "task done" marker than ✅
• Optionally enable time-based cleanup if you want stale tabs auto-closed (off by default)

100% LOCAL — no servers, no analytics, no telemetry, no data transmitted anywhere. All cleanup logic runs inside your browser. Open source at github.com/fiatgrowth/browser-sanity.
