About
Claustra is a local-first password manager built for Apple users who value privacy above all else. Your passwords never leave your device — no cloud servers, no third-party sync, no tracking. This browser extension connects to the Claustra desktop app on your Mac via Native Messaging, giving you seamless autofill and credential management right in your browser. KEY FEATURES - Automatic login detection: Claustra detects login forms on any website and displays a convenient autofill badge next to password fields. - One-click autofill: Click the Claustra badge or select a credential from the popup to instantly fill username and password fields. - Smart site matching: The extension automatically suggests credentials that match the current website's domain. - Search all credentials: Quickly search through your entire vault from the popup without leaving the page. - Copy to clipboard: Copy passwords to your clipboard with a single click when autofill isn't available. - SPA support: Works on modern single-page applications by detecting dynamically loaded login forms. - Dark mode: The autofill dropdown respects your system's dark mode preference. SECURITY - Zero-knowledge architecture: Your master password and vault data never leave your Mac. The extension communicates exclusively with the local Claustra app — no network requests to external servers. - AES-256-GCM encryption: All credentials are encrypted at rest using AES-256-GCM with keys derived via Argon2id. - Local-first design: No cloud dependency. Your data stays on your devices. - No analytics or telemetry: Claustra collects zero user data. HOW IT WORKS 1. Install and unlock the Claustra desktop app on your Mac (download from https://claustra.app). 2. Install this browser extension. 3. When you visit a website with a login form, Claustra automatically detects it and shows an autofill badge. 4. Click the badge or open the extension popup to select credentials and fill the form. The extension requires the Claustra desktop app to be installed and running. It communicates with the app through Chrome's Native Messaging protocol — a secure, local-only channel.
