About

WebSnips is a clean, focused way to collect text from the web.

WHAT IT DOES
- Highlight any text on any page.
- Right-click → "Save selection to WebSnips".
- The snippet (text, source URL, page title, and timestamp) is saved locally on your device.
- Sign in with Google to also sync your snippets to a private cloud library — your snippets follow you across browsers and devices.

WHY YOU MIGHT WANT IT
- Research: build up a personal archive of quotes, references, and excerpts without taking screenshots or pasting into a note-taking app.
- Writing: capture lines, ideas, and source material as you read, then come back later.
- Learning: save terminology, definitions, and exemplary sentences from articles you read.

DESIGN PRINCIPLES
- No tracking, no analytics, no ads. The extension only records what you explicitly save.
- Local-first: every snippet works offline. Cloud sync is optional, opt-in, and tied to your Google account.
- Tiny: no bundled libraries, no telemetry, no permissions beyond what is strictly needed.

PRIVACY
- We do not collect your browsing history. We do not see pages you did not explicitly save a snippet from.
- Cloud snippets are scoped to your Google account — only you can read or write your own snippets.

REQUIRED PERMISSIONS
- storage — to save snippets on your device
- contextMenus — to add the "Save selection" right-click menu item
- Access to one specific Cloud Function URL — only used when you choose to sign in and sync
