About

Clara: Your Science Reading Assistant

Reading academic papers shouldn't feel like deciphering a code. Clara is a browser extension built specifically for science students, researchers, and anyone who wants to navigate dense scientific literature without getting stuck on specialized jargon.

Clara acts as your on-page tutor. Instead of constantly opening new tabs to search for definitions or re-reading a complex paragraph five times, you can get instant, plain-English explanations right where you are reading.

Key Features
- Instant Definitions: Highlight any scientific term, and Clara provides a simplified definition. No more guessing what "homeostasis" or "signal transduction" means in the middle of a sentence.
- Analogy-Based Learning: Where possible, Clara provides a real-world analogy to help you visualize abstract concepts.
- Paragraph Simplification: Found a particularly dense block of text? Highlight the entire paragraph, and Clara will rewrite it in everyday English while preserving the core scientific meaning.
- Non-Intrusive UI: Results appear in a sleek, deep-orange floating panel in the top-right corner. You can move it, minimize it, or close it whenever you need to focus.
- Works Everywhere: Whether you are on PubMed, arXiv, Wikipedia, or a university library portal, Clara is ready to help.

How it Works
1. Install the extension and add your own OpenAI API key (this keeps your data private and gives you full control).
2. Highlight a word to see a quick definition and the scientific field it belongs to.
3. Highlight a paragraph to get a "TL;DR" version in plain English.
4. Right-click any text to manually trigger Clara from the context menu.

Privacy First
We believe your reading habits are your business.
- Local Storage: Your API key is stored only on your local device.
- No Tracking: Clara does not track your browsing history or collect personal data.
- Direct API Access: The extension communicates directly with OpenAI to process your highlights; no third-party servers are involved.

Stop struggling with "academic-speak" and start understanding your research faster. Install Clara today and make science reading simple.
