Watch DR TV with English subtitles — no server, no data collection, just your browser and your favourite LLM.

DRTV in English is a lightweight browser extension that adds English subtitles to Danish TV shows and documentaries on DR's streaming platform (dr.dk/drtv). It's perfect for expats, language learners, or anyone who wants to enjoy Danish content with English translations.

How it works

1. Open any episode on dr.dk/drtv — the extension activates automatically.
2. Click the subtitle button — choose "English" from the injected menu.
3. Watch with English subtitles — translated cues appear as a native subtitle track. The extension captures the Danish subtitle file (.vtt) directly from DR's player, sends it to your chosen LLM provider (OpenAI, Anthropic, Gemini, or any OpenAI-compatible endpoint), and streams the English translation back. The whole process takes seconds.

- Native integration - English subtitles appear as a proper TextTrack on DR's player, not an overlay. Works with Widevine/DRM content.
- Offline-friendly cache — once an episode is translated, the cache persists in IndexedDB for instant replay.

What you need:
- A valid API key from OpenAI, Anthropic, Gemini, or a custom OpenAI-compatible endpoint
- Chrome browser

Permissions explained

This extension requests minimal permissions:
- storage — save your API key and settings locally
- webRequest / webNavigation — detect when DR's subtitle files load
- https://www.dr.dk/* — communicate with DR's player
- https://*/ (optional) — allow custom LLM endpoints if you self-host

We don't track you, we don't serve ads, and we don't sell your data. This extension is open source and built by a developer who just wants to watch Danish TV in English.
