  Sidenote is a reading assistant for browser-rendered PDFs, web articles, Confluence pages, and uploaded documents (PDF, DOCX, TXT, MD).
  
  Open the side panel on any document and Sidenote can:
  
  Summarise - TL;DR bullets, a single paragraph with key points, or a structured deep-read at 400-600 words. Pick the length, get clean markdown.
  
  Chat with citations - ask questions about the document and every claim is followed by a numbered citation chip. Click a chip and the original document scrolls to the exact passage with the source highlighted.
  
  Explain simply - pull a passage, choose a reading level (like I'm 12/like I'm 16 / layperson), and Sidenote rewrites without losing accuracy.
  
  Build a glossary - extract jargon, acronyms, and proper nouns from the document with definitions grounded in the passages where they appear.
  
  How it's different
  
  Citation-first design. The model is forced to cite the chunks it pulled the answer from, the server validates every cited ID, and the UI quietly drops anything it can't verify. If the document doesn't answer the question, you'll be told plainly.
  
  Streaming responses. Chat answers stream in token-by-token, with the citation chips swapping in once the model finishes.
  
  Privacy-respecting. We don't train Al models on your documents. Data lives in Supabase's UK region, encrypted at rest. You choose between Store mode (re-open documents later) and Discard mode (process transiently, don't retain).

  Citations that actually work
  
  Most AI tools mark citations with vague references. Sidenote's chips jump to the exact sentence on the source page. The model is forced to attach a verbatim quote to every claim; the server validates each one against the chunk's stored content — tolerating small typography and inline-citation differences — and drops anything it can't verify. If the document doesn't answer your question, you'll be told plainly.
  
  Uploaded documents get their own viewer
  
  Drop in a DOCX, TXT, or Markdown file and Sidenote both ingests it and renders it as a clean, navigable page in the dashboard — same citation chips, same scroll-to-source highlighting, no separate viewer to manage. PDFs open in Chrome's native viewer with the cited line pre-loaded into the find bar.
  
  Document library
  
  Everything you've worked on stays in a personal library. Re-open from the side panel — cached chunks, glossary, and summary reload instantly with no re-payment for indexing.
  
  Privacy
  
  No AI training on your documents. Anthropic (chat, summary, explain) and Voyage AI (embeddings) run with no-training defaults on the API tiers we use.
  Data in Supabase's UK region (eu-west-2), encrypted at rest, with row-level isolation per account.
  Two retention modes per document: Store keeps the document for re-open; Discard processes transiently and removes everything beyond the chunks needed for retrieval within 24 hours.
  Magic-link sign-in. No passwords, no third-party trackers.
