About

**Stop fighting with messy copy-paste. Turn any webpage into clean Markdown in one click — 100% on your device.**

You've done it a hundred times: copy an article into Notion, Obsidian, or a ChatGPT prompt — and get a mess. Broken tables, lost code blocks, mangled formulas, junk sidebars, ad clutter, and inline styles that won't die. **Web to Markdown** fixes that. Click the toolbar icon, hit **Convert**, and get tidy, portable Markdown you can paste anywhere — with nothing ever leaving your browser.

**Why install it**

- **It just works on the hard pages.** Most "save as Markdown" tools choke on real-world content. We don't. Fenced **code blocks with language detection**, full **GFM tables** (complex/merged cells preserved), and **math** (KaTeX / MathJax / MathML → `$…$` and `$$…$$`) all survive the trip intact.
- **Truly private — no account, no servers, no tracking.** Every conversion runs locally inside your browser. There's no backend to send your reading to, no analytics, no sign-up. What you read is nobody's business but yours.
- **Free and unlimited.** No conversion caps, no paywall on the core feature.

**What you can do**

- 📄 **Whole page or just a selection** — convert a full article, or highlight a passage and convert only that.
- 🗂️ **Batch mode** — pick multiple tabs in the current window and merge them into one Markdown file, or download each as a file in a single `.zip`.
- 🖼️ **Three image modes** — keep remote links, **download all images as a `.zip`** next to your Markdown, or **inline them as base64** for one fully self-contained file.
- 🪶 **YAML front-matter** — auto-add title, source URL, date, author, and tags (every field toggleable) — perfect for Obsidian and static-site workflows.
- 🔍 **Live preview** — rendered output and raw source, side by side, before you export.
- 🕘 **Local history** — search, re-copy, re-download, or clear past conversions, all stored only on your machine.
- 🔗 **Hand off to your tools** — one click to **send to AI** (copies the Markdown and opens ChatGPT, Claude, Gemini, Perplexity, DeepSeek & more, ready to paste) or **send to Obsidian** straight into your vault.
- 🌓 **Dark mode**, with English & 简体中文 (and more languages).

**Built for people who live in Markdown**

Researchers archiving sources. Writers clipping references. Developers saving docs and READMEs. Students capturing lecture notes with real formulas. Anyone feeding clean context into an LLM. If your knowledge lives in **Obsidian, Notion, GitHub, or an AI chat**, this is the fastest way to get the web into it — cleanly.

**Private by design**

The extension has no backend, collects no data, and contains zero analytics. Cross-origin image fetching (only for the zip/inline image modes) happens **only after you explicitly grant permission**, and never for plain text conversion. See our privacy policy for the full breakdown.

**Install it, open a page, and click Convert. That's the whole learning curve.**
