The web is getting heavier: higher video resolutions, autoplaying players, and platforms that often default to higher quality than we really need. But the web runs on electricity, and as of 2025, 33% of the world’s electricity still comes from coal, the fossil fuel that emits the most CO₂.

Load Less helps counter that trend: it reduces unnecessary loading while you browse, starting with video-heavy parts of the web.

The goal: a lower carbon footprint for everyday browsing.

CURRENT FEATURES

- Automatically caps YouTube video quality to 360p or 480p
- Switches YouTube videos playing in background tabs to minimum quality (144p) when it can save data
- Prevents embedded video players from fully loading until you choose to play them
- Shows quality suggestions on supported streaming sites
- Lets you control or disable these features at any time from the popup

No tracking and no data collection.
