Daily Word replaces your first new tab of the day with a single, beautifully presented word — complete with its pronunciation, part of speech, definition, an example sentence, and etymology. After you've seen it, every subsequent new tab works exactly as normal.

How it works
Open a new tab in the morning and Daily Word greets you with today's word. The full word card displays:

Once you've seen the word for the day, new tabs return to Chrome's default behaviour automatically — no disruption to your normal browsing. Want to revisit the word at any time? The toolbar icon gives you instant access to the word and its definition from any page, any time.

Over 1,000 words and growing
Daily Word ships with a carefully assembled pool of more than 1,000 words — from rare and beautiful English vocabulary to fascinating terms borrowed from other languages. Words range across all parts of speech and subjects: science, literature, philosophy, everyday life, and the wonderfully untranslatable. With new words cycling daily, you'll be learning for years before the list repeats.

Smart and unobtrusive
Daily Word is designed to fit naturally into your day rather than interrupt it:

Shows each word only once per day — then steps aside completely
Toggle "Show Once Per Day" off if you'd prefer the word on every new tab
"Reset Today's View" in settings if you closed it too quickly
Definitions for less common words are fetched automatically and cached locally — no repeated lookups
Works entirely offline once a word's definition has been loaded

Clean, typographic design
The word card is designed to feel like a quality print publication — unhurried, legible, and easy on the eyes. A live clock and date round out the page without adding clutter.

Privacy first
Daily Word does not collect, store, or transmit any personal data. Your preferences are saved locally in Chrome storage. The only external request made is a definition lookup for certain words, which sends only the word itself to a free open dictionary API — nothing else.
