About

You look up a word, understand it for a minute, then forget it — and look it up again next week. Knot breaks that loop.

Save your own meaning for a word or phrase once, in your own words. From then on, Knot recognizes it on every page you read and shows your note right where you're reading. Then it quizzes you so the word actually sticks.

Knot is deliberately NOT a dictionary or translator. There are no lookups, no AI, no accounts — just the meanings you chose, resurfaced where you read. It works for language learners (English↔中文, English↔日本語, any pair — including inside continuous Chinese, Japanese, and Korean text) and for anyone wading through jargon who wants their own glossary to follow them around the web.

— CAPTURE —
• Select any text and right-click "Add Annotation," or press Alt+Shift+A (⌥⇧A on Mac).
• A lightweight input panel appears on any site, styled to stay out of the page's way.
• Knot warns you about duplicate or overlapping notes before you save.
• Prefer typing? Add words by hand from the popup or the full-page manager.

— ANNOTATE —
• Your saved words are recognized on every page, in any language.
• First appearance shows the full meaning inline; repeats get a quiet underline with a "+" to expand on demand.
• Choose inline style — word (meaning) — or ruby style, with the meaning floating above the word.
• Customize the underline (solid, dashed, dotted, or wavy), its color, and the meaning's font size, with a live preview in Settings.
• Click any annotated word to edit or delete it in place.
• Handles dynamic pages and single-page apps automatically, with a one-click re-annotate button in the popup.

— MANAGE —
• Search your words and meanings; sort by most recent, A–Z, or enabled.
• Turn any word on or off individually, or toggle all annotations at once.
• A full-page manager adds bulk select, enable/disable, and delete.
• Export and import your whole vocabulary as JSON or CSV — merge into what you have or replace it.

— LEARN —
• Built-in vocabulary tests run both ways: word → meaning and meaning → word.
• Test everything, just your recent additions, or the words Knot notices you struggle with.
• Automatic scoring with typo tolerance, a manual override, plus a timer and pace stats.
• Per-word accuracy history, and annotations hide during a test so you can't peek.

— PRIVATE BY DESIGN —
Knot makes zero network requests. No accounts, no servers, no analytics, no tracking. Your annotations, settings, and scores live only in your browser (chrome.storage.local) and never leave your device. Uninstall the extension and every trace is gone.

The extension's own pages include an optional "Buy me a coffee" link — following it is entirely up to you and never required to use anything above.

Save a meaning once. See it everywhere. Remember it for good.
