Changelog
- Jun 9, 2026description
Collections Plus is a local-first replacement for Microsoft Edge Collections, which is being retired. Save pages, images, and notes into organized collections — no account, no server, no tracking. Your data stays in your browser. SAVING One-click save of the current page, a keyboard shortcut (Ctrl+Shift+S), or right-click any page, link, or image. Add all open tabs at once, or drag a link/image onto the panel. Skips duplicates; captures a screenshot thumbnail when a page has no preview. ORGANIZING Search across everything; group collections into folders; pin favorites; tag and filter. Checkboxes turn a collection into a checklist; custom fields (price, qty…) add structured data. Move/copy items between collections, reorder by drag-and-drop, undo deletes, custom covers, and a light/dark theme. Trash bin with one-click restore (auto-emptied after 30 days) and an Archive to keep old collections out of the way without deleting them. EXPORTING & BACKUP Export to Excel (.xlsx) with clickable links, or CSV, Markdown, or HTML. Import your Edge Collections CSV. Full JSON backup and local version history. PRIVACY Everything is stored locally. Optional cross-device sync uses a single file in your own cloud folder (OneDrive/Drive/Dropbox/iCloud) — the developer never sees your data and runs no server.
Collections Plus brings back — and improves on — Microsoft Edge Collections. Edge Collections is being retired (Edge 149, ~June 2026). Collections Plus is an open, local-first replacement for any Chromium browser: no account, no server, no tracking. Your data stays in your browser, and an optional file-based sync keeps it in step across your own devices using a cloud folder you already have. Save pages, images, and notes into organized collections — then open the whole collection in a single click, with every page gathered into its own named browser tab group, just like the old Edge Collections. 🆕 NEW IN 1.3.0 • One-click "Open all pages" — every collection card has a ▶ button that opens all of its saved pages at once. No more digging through menus. • Named tab groups — opened pages are gathered into a browser tab group titled with the collection's name, so a whole project opens neatly together (the classic Edge Collections behavior). • Cleaner cards — collection names are always shown in full (they wrap instead of being cut off), and the card actions now appear on hover so the title gets the full width. The header shows the Collections Plus icon and never clips its title. ✦ SAVING • A side panel that mirrors the original Collections pane. • Save the current page (with thumbnail, favicon, and title) in one click, or with the Ctrl+Shift+S keyboard shortcut (rebindable). • Right-click any page, link, or image → "Save to Collections Plus" → pick or create a collection. Select text → "Save selection as note." • Add all open tabs in the window to a collection at once. • Drag a link or image straight onto the panel to save it. • Duplicate-aware: re-saving a page already in the collection is skipped. • When a page has no preview image, a local screenshot becomes the thumbnail. ✦ ORGANIZING • Open a whole collection in one click into a named tab group (see What's New). • Free-form notes; drag-and-drop reordering of items and collections. • Search across every collection — titles, URLs, notes, and tags. • Folders to group collections, pin favorites to the top, and tags (click a tag to filter). • Checkboxes turn any collection into a checklist; custom fields (price, qty, SKU…) add structured data that flows into exports. • Move or copy items between collections; undo deletes. • Trash & Archive: deleting a collection or folder sends it to the Trash (restorable, auto-emptied after 30 days); archive old collections to keep your main list tidy. Both sync and are included in backups. • Custom covers: upload an image or promote a saved thumbnail with ★. • Light / dark theme. ✦ EXPORTING & BACKUP • Export to Excel as a real .xlsx workbook (one sheet per collection, clickable links) or as CSV — great for part lists, shopping lists, or research sources. • Export to Markdown or HTML, or copy a collection's links to the clipboard. • Import your Edge export (collections_export.csv) so existing collections carry over on day one. • JSON backup (high fidelity: keeps notes, images, and fields) plus a local version history you can roll back to. • Optional offline image caching so saved images survive link rot. ✦ SYNC ACROSS YOUR DEVICES (OPTIONAL) • No account, no API keys. Collections Plus reads and writes a single collections-sync.json file that you place in a folder your computer already keeps synced — OneDrive, Google Drive, Dropbox, iCloud Drive, etc. Your cloud client does the syncing; the extension just keeps that one file current. • Last-write-wins reconciliation, built for one person moving between machines. • Off until you turn it on. Requires the File System Access API (Chrome/Edge). ✦ PRIVACY Everything is stored locally via chrome.storage.local. Nothing is sent to us or any server. The optional sync file lives in a folder you chose, touched only by your own cloud client. Page/image thumbnails are stored as references to their original URLs; uploaded covers, captured screenshots, and cached images are downscaled and stored inline so they always render. Offline image caching and cross-device sync are both off until you enable them. ✦ BROWSER SUPPORT Chrome (114+) and Edge (114+) are the recommended, fully-tested targets. The UI is hosted by the Side Panel API; other Chromium browsers may work depending on their support for it. Open source (MIT): https://github.com/rod-trent/Collections-Plus
