About

Automatic Tab Sorting keeps your tabs organized by recency without any configuration.

The active tab is automatically moved to the first unpinned position, ensuring recently used tabs remain easily accessible on the left. Pinned tabs are never affected, and manual tab movements are preserved.

No data collection. No background overhead beyond a minimal service worker.

Key features:

Automatic repositioning of the active tab (can be disabled)
Most recently used tabs always stay left
Sort tabs by title or by domain
Group all tabs by domain on demand, with deterministic colors and a configurable minimum threshold
Auto-group by domain once a configurable tab count is reached
Auto-collapse inactive groups when switching tabs (configurable threshold)
Sort tabs within groups by last access
Extract all tabs of the current domain:
into a new window
into a new group (across all windows)
Remove duplicate tabs (keeps the most recently accessed)
Close all tabs in the active group
Settings synchronized via Chrome sync
Keyboard shortcuts (default):

Alt+Shift+W — Extract domain to new Window
Alt+Shift+T — Extract domain to new Tab group
Alt+Shift+G — Group all tabs by domain
Alt+Shift+R — Remove duplicate tabs
Available but unbound by default (Chrome limits to 4 pre-assigned shortcuts):

Sort ungrouped tabs by domain
Sort ungrouped tabs by title
Close current tab group
All shortcuts customizable via chrome://extensions/shortcuts.

How grouping works: tabs are grouped by registrable (root) domain. Group colors are assigned deterministically from the domain name, so the same domain always gets the same color. Existing groups matching a domain are reused instead of duplicated. Empty groups are automatically removed by Chrome.

Lightweight. Deterministic behavior. No tracking.
